New Series: "Rising above the competition."

Today, I passed by three construction sites on my street, and I am so excited to see the construction business revving up their engines. Although we are far from where we were 5 years ago, I can see the sun peeking through the clouds. So as Construction gains traction, those of us that have tried to make it through the storm can begin to sharpen our swords for battle. This month I would like to do a series for subcontractors. Many of you are trying to understand how to hedge in front of your competition. With the bidding wars being as they are, many companies are paying (with low bids) owners and general contractors to work, sometimes robbing Peter to pay Paul, all in the effort to keep work going in their office. The trend has been that most of the bids are below hard cost form a smaller firm willing to work for free in order to just get the job. But when the economy comes back and we begin to see bids reflect the economic growth, how can you continue to be competitive and make money on the jobs that you are trying to acquire. This week we will discuss RFI’s, Submittals and Closeout documents. We will show you how to have your General Contractors and Owners, begging your company to bid their projects or even better, offering you their next project.
